Celtic music is a modern term used to describe the folk musical traditions of the Celtic people of Western Europe. The six Celtic nationalities are the Irish, Scottish, Manx, Cornish, Breton, and Welsh peoples. Irish, Scottish, and Manx folk music is differentiated by the use of an extended range, often including more than two octaves. Breton and Welsh folk music uses a closed range, often reduced to half an octave.
Celtic music crossed the Atlantic to become a major influence on American music. Bluegrass, country, blues, and rock ‘n roll all reveal a Celtic influence.
